Standard 3: Learning Environments
- The teacher works with learners to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.
- The teacher is the main role that influence the classroom environment. A positive and productive classroom environment can have a huge impact on student learning success.
Goal:
- Let students learn not only at a classroom setting, but also beyond the classroom to extend the learning environment using technology, media, and local and global resources
Reflection:
- The Dual Immersion Program allows students to have rich learning environment at school, but it is relatively harder for students to have self-learning opportunities while they're away from the classroom. Students are have a hard time to learn Chinese outside of classroom because of English environment. It is my goal to let students learn not only at a classroom setting, but also elsewhere. I can accomplish this development plan by providing more extensive learning materials on our class website like reading and listening tasks that will help students learn while they are at home. The class website is very useful for my students. Students can preview and review our lesson and related material anytime and anywhere.
Evidence:
- My class website: https://chinese2020-21.weebly.com/
- Table of contents of my class website.
- Announcement
- How you can help your student (1. Homework-parents can download homework here. 2. On-line stroke order animation and dictionary. 3.Songs & videos. 4. Math, Chinese, & Interconnections games)
- What students will learn in Chinese class (Learning schedule for 1. Chinese Literacy. 2. Math. 3. Science/Social Studies)
- What students have done in Chinese class (what we learn every day. I update information daily)
Reflection:
- Being a second language learner as well as a language teacher, I believe students would love to learn when they find that learning a language is fun. In the class website I collect interesting computer games, stroke order animation and dictionary, stories, pictures, songs, videos, homework download links, activities, and more related to the given topic to increase students’ interest to learn. Especially online computer games students love to play them because these games are fun. When students play these games at home they will more familiar with our weekly content topic and more likely to raise their hands to answer my questions during the class. The class website provides different types of games such as listening, picture matching, word matching, and more. Provides different games for different learning style. Some students may learn better to hear the voice; some may like to see picture to help them memorize; and some may easily catch the meaning by wording. I spend plenty of time on class website but it is worthy. According to the parent survey, some parents mentioned that their students use the class website regularly. The website has regular around 100 unique visits and 500 page views with a record unique visits for week 25 (02/22/2016-02/26/2016) was 453 and page views was 918. The website's visit data shows that our parents and students use class website at home constantly.
