Standard 9: Leadership and Collaboration
- The teacher is a leader who engages collaboratively with learners, families, colleagues, and community members to build a shared vision and supportive professional culture focused on student growth and success.
- A teacher should participate as a team member for the learners, the school, and the community to develop a shared culture and to meet differential needs of learners.
Goal:
- Collaborate with principal (Observation), teachers (PLC), mentors (monthly meeting), other schools' dual immersion teachers (Chinese DLI Professional Development & dual immersion book study) regularly to enhance teaching skills. Also, in addition to weekly email to parents, to work with student's parents when needed to enhance student growth and success.
Reflection:
- I found that to collaborate with my partner teacher and other teachers in school makes my teaching more smoothly. In addition to collaborate with principal, teachers, and mentors in our school, I also collaborate with other schools' dual immersion teachers. During the Chinese DLI Professional Development day some teachers are very interested in my class website materials, so I uploaded a tutorial video to demonstrate "how to put Chinese stroke order on teacher's blog or class website" to help other teachers. I also teach other Chinese teachers to utilize Chinese games in class/on-line and I uploaded a tutorial video "how to put flash game on google drive and embed flash games on class website or blog" to demonstrate useful technology tools or online materials using those tools in class or beyond the class.
- Education is not only teachers' responsibility but also all members in the community. Parents are especially important in their children’s learning so to communicate with parents/guardians is important to make learning successful. I want parents to know that I care about their children and want students to learn. Ways of communication include emails, phone calls, texts, notes, face to face, and other method that is convenience for the teacher and parents. I feel I am lucky to have supportive parents of students.

Reflection:
- Teachers should collaborate with students, families, colleagues, and community members to build a shared vision. I always discuss with my English partner teacher after lesson to see if there is anything we need to change or we can do better. The way working collaborative with English partner teacher is also a way encourage me learning while teaching. Also, I work with my principal that she comes to my classes regularly to observe and gives me observation feedback notes. These feedback notes are valuable for me that is not only because they are evidence to show that I know how to collaborate with others but also because they record my strength and weakness in teaching so that I can improve myself and become a better teacher.
- I also participate on weekly PLC meetings and collaboration-protocol meeting with my English partner teacher, parents teachers conference, Chinese DLI Professional Development, and dual language immersion book study. I love to be part of the learning community to contribute my perspective and receive feedback from others for students’ learning.
